Functions

Industry & Commerce Wing

1. Promotion and development of industries in the Province
2. Implementation of industrial policies framed by the government from time to time
3. Registration and inspection of boilers
4. Registration of firms under the Partnership Act, 1932
5. Registration of societies (including Deeni Madaris) under the Societies Act, 1860
6. Registration of non-trading companies within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Companies Ordinance, 1984
7. Collection of industrial statistics
8. Assisting the Federal Government in formulation of its trade policies, keeping in view the geographical location of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
9. Liaison among the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association (APCEA), Petroleum Dealers Association and the Federal Government for their day-to-day affairs of above agencies with respect to trade and commerce
10. Acting as focal point for WTO
11. Monitoring the progress of CNG filling stations in the Province and assisting the district governments in formulating their by-laws for CNG filling stations
12. Collection of Government revenue.

Labour Wing

1. Settlement of industrial disputes, individual and collective grievances
2. Implementation/enforcement of various labour laws, through periodic inspections
3. Payment of compensation to the industrial workers under Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923 and adjudication of claims under the Payment of Wages Act, 1936
4. Enforcement of International System of weights and measures
5. Registration of trade unions and settlement of their disputes
6. Enforcement of Employment of Children Act, 1991 for elimination of child labour
7. Fixation of minimum wages
8. Collection, compilation and dissemination of labour statistics
9. Playing role in tripartite bodies, tripartite conferences and ILO-IPEC
10. Implementation of government policies and assisting district governments in connection with their functions
11. Execution of foreign aided projects/programmes on elimination of child labour
12. Coordination with the government efforts for combating the issue of child labour
13. Providing legal assistance to the labourers entangled in debt bondage
14. Assisting government in formulation of its labour policies
15. Realization of reasonably good amount of Government revenue under the Shops & Establishment Ordinance, 1969 and NWFP Standard Weights & Measures Act, 1976
