The International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions ratified by the Government of Pakistan confer the rights of freedom of association on the employers and workers. The workers and employers form and register their associations and trade unions in accordance with the law.
Registration of trade unions is regulated under the Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2002. For this purpose we have Registrars of Trade Unions for the following areas;
Their main duties are registration of trade unions of workers and associations of employers, verification and recognition of trade unions' and associations' executives/office bearers and holding of referendums between the contesting trade unions for determination of Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA) Unions for different industrial and commercial establishments in accordance with the law.
